About the Artists

Vladimir Makuc

Vladimir Makuc (1925–2016) was born in 1925 in Solkan, Slovenia. In 1954, he graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, and in 1956 he completed a specialization in restoration and conservation.

He received many awards for his work, including the Prešeren Fund Award (1962), the Prešeren Award (1979) and the Rihard Jakopič Award (1987). He exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad, and worked in graphics, painting, sculpture and tapestry.

Lojze Spacal

Lojze Spacal (1907–2000) was born in 1907 in Trieste, Italy. In 1934, he finished his studies at the Art Lyceum in Venice, and then continued at the Art Institute for Decorative Arts in Monza.

In 1974, he received the Prešeren Award, and after his death he was also awarded the Rihard Jakopič Award. He exhibited at solo and group exhibitions. He passed away in 2000 in Trieste.

Valentin Oman

Valentin Oman (b. 1935) was born in 1935 in Finkenstein, Austria. In 1962, he graduated in painting from the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, and in 1963 he also completed a graphics specialization at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana.

He received numerous awards and recognitions for his work, including the Prešeren Fund Award (1981) and the Jakopič Award (1997). He lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
