Janez Bernik (1933 – 2016)

Born in Gunclje in 1933.

He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana with a degree in painting under Professor Maksim Sedej. He also went on to specialise in printmaking under professors Božidar Jakac and Riko Debenjak. He studied in France and Italy. He was a member of Group 69 and participated in all its exhibitions.

A versatile artist whose excellent results can be found in painting, sculpture, graphics, tapestry and book furnishings. He has received numerous national and international awards for his work.

He died in 2016 in Prebold.
