Rihard Jakopič (1869-1943)
Born in Ljubljana in 1869.
He was a central figure of Slovenian painting in the first half of the 20th century. He is considered a pioneer of Slovenian impressionist painting. He attempted to exhibit abroad, mainly in Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Paris and London. He was most successful in Belgrade, Zagreb and Sofia. He was the initiator of the foundation of the National Gallery in Ljubljana.
He died in Ljubljana in 1943.
